Hi all Savage Owners:
The little Suzy is still running well after passing the 64,000 mark. A couple of weeks ago while entering the freeway on-ramp I was shifting into 4th gear when the clutch cable broke. I was able to pull over safely and get into nuetral. Fortunately, I have AMA motorcycle towing service. They towed me to the nearest large shop (no charge to me). Ninety dollars later, I had a new cable and was back on the road to work. The cable was 23$ and the labor was 65$. A couple of weeks before that I was trying to perform a valve adjustment which requires removing the timing inpection cover on the left side of the crankcase. Well, I stripped the screw, so I had to have another shop remove it. 65$ later, I had a new cover. OUch! Other than those to things the savage is still running great. Still on original clutch, battery. The belt was replaced at 50,000. Keeping my fingers crossed that she'll last until I pay her off as this is my main source of transportation. (we can do this here in Southern California). All I've done is run synthetic oil, changed the oil and filter ever 2,500 miles and periodically adjust the valves. Every 4-5 months I inspect and fill the battery, adjust the belt and clean my modified air filter. Also change the plug once in a while. Thought you all might want to know how the highest mileage Savage is doing.
Sorry to hear about the stolen Savage on the earlier post, even though I don't live close, I'll keep my eyes peeled. Hope everyone is enjoying the summer. For those of you that live in hard winter climates, ride while you still can!
